I saw a casting call in a Facebook group for a University of Salford Film Production short film “Health and Safety at Work” and thought it not only would be a good way to try the comedy skills I have been practicing
at the comedy society, it would also be good to network outside of my course by meeting people in the Film Production course.
So after emailing the writer and director Faye and sending her a link to my YouTube channel she emailed me back saying that I had got the part and sent me over the script. I stayed up the night before learning the lines as I was nervous I was going to mess up the delivery as this was the first time I was acting out something I had never written.
When I got into the studio at Media City I was nervous at first but after meeting Faye and the crew behind it I got more comfortable and relaxed with acting as Faye allowed me to play around with the character of Byron is was playing.
The lead actor Shelly was very good in her performance as Clare and even got her contact details as I told her I also make comedy sketches and I would love to work with her again.
Altogether I’m really glad I went ahead and stepped out of my comfort zone as it helped me not only improve my skills as a performer, but it helped me network within the uni and get more on-set experience, even if it was only a student film any experience is a good experience.
